[21:00] [Solarchos] Then you know about the detection of three new Tyranid hive-fleets approaching my home galaxy. Hive-Fleet Jormungandr has arrived. The fighting's already started.

[21:02] [Solarchos] Even worse, the Necrons are officially on the move. They unleashed a new kind of weapon against the Imperium that no one saw coming: an honest-to-God planetkiller.
[21:03] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Oh f[BLEEP]k. That can never be good.
[21:05] [Solarchos] It happened not long ago in the Vidar sector. A huge Necron starship came out of nowhere. Hell, no one's quite sure what it really was, if it was a Tomb-world that was capable of interstellar travel, or a starship of planetary size. Either way, it was code-named the World Engine.
[21:05] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Good lord.
[21:06] [Solarchos] The entire sector fleet was mobilized and included no less than 15 Space Marine task forces. Nothing they had could even slow it down, and the World Engine literally went from world to world and obliterated everything in its path.
[21:07] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Kinda hate to say it, but aren't you glad you're not there.
[21:08] [Solarchos] The World Engine would take up orbit, activate its gauss projectors, and literally disintegrate every living thing on the surface, harvesting all of the life-force of everyone.
[21:09] > Solarchos starts to slowly smile. "Heh, don't count my people out. The stories' not over yet!"
[21:10] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Heh.
[21:10] [Solarchos] The Astral Knights Chapter launched an all-out assault against the World Engine. The *entire* Chapter packed into a single Battle-Barge and went kamikaze against the Necrons. Their Chapter Master has a plan, and he knew exactly what he was doing.

[21:14] [Solarchos] The Astral Claws successfully got past the World Engine's defenses. Their ship held up against all of the fire the Necrons were pouring on it, and then they hit the World Engine's shields at maximum speed. They pierced the shields, but their ship was travelling so fast there was no way to avoid a collision with the World Engine itself.
[21:15] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Boom?
[21:16] [Solarchos] The instant they were through the shields, the Astral Knights all boarded drop pods and abandoned ship. The Tempestus crashed HARD on the World Engine, and the entire Astral Knights Chapter landed on the surface and brought the fight straight to the Necrons.
[21:17] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] S[BLEEP]t. Probably worth the price, though.
[21:19] [Solarchos] For the next 100 hours, they fought non-stop, destroying every gauss pylon, weapon forge, and command node in their path. There must have been tens of thousands of Necrons inside the World Engine, not to mention countless robots, but nothing they had could slow down the Astral Knights.
[21:20] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Man.
[21:21] [Solarchos] In the end, Chapter Master Artor Amhrad and five other Marines made it to the World Engine's primary central control nexus. They then detonated a multi-megaton thermonuke right in the heart of the World Engine. That was enough to overload the entire device and utterly disable it.
[21:21] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Victory for them, huh?
[21:22] [Solarchos] With the World Engine defenseless, the Imperial Fleet attacked with a vengeance, blasting the Necrons over and over again with cyclonic torpedoes - planetkillers for a planetkiller.
[21:23] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] It worked, didn't it? Hell, gotta do what it takes.
[21:24] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Any new weapons and equipment we should know about?
[21:25] [Solarchos] Afterwards, the Adeptus Mechanicus got a hold of a huge amount of salvaged Necron technology, and the Ultramarines retrieved the remains of the Astral Knight's crashed Battle-Barge. They then set the Tempestus down on the surface of the last world destroyed by the World Engine to serve as a shrine to the Astral Knight's total victory and sacrifice.
[21:27] [Solarchos] That's not all though. The news gets better!
[21:28] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Oh?
[21:30] [Solarchos] Morrigan somehow managed to get a hold of a Space Marine deployment listing. The Sable Swords Chapter recently conducted an Exterminatus on a world conquered by the Necrons. Those soul-golems just got their teeth kicked in again.
[21:32] [Solarchos] And elements of the Salamanders Chapter are now conducting search-and-destroy operations against several suspected tomb-worlds in the Heracles sub-sector. It looks like the Space Marines are seriously starting to mobilize against the Necrons before they become a major threat to the rest of the galaxy.
[21:33] [Solarchos] What do you think, Lt. Mitsurugi?
[21:34] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Holy s[BLEEP]t. You don't think our victory got them into overdrive, did it? Also, what about new equipment and weapons?
[21:36] [Solarchos] The Space Marines are definitely becoming innovative. They've developed a number of new weapons and vehicle variants that may or may not have received the official sanction of the Adeptus Mechanicus. This is actually good news for a change!
[21:37] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Heh, whatcha find out?
[21:39] [Solarchos] Well, the Ultramarines in particular have begun utilizing new types of bolter ammunition that is vastly superior to the "standard" type. However, supplies of the new stuff is a little limited. It's only being issued to specialized veteran units.
[21:40] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] If you have the info, let's hear it.
[21:41] [Solarchos] For starters, the Iron Halo, which is a type of protective force field generator that can be worn by a single person, is being built in larger quantities now.
[21:43] [Solarchos] As for the new boltgun ammo...there's the Dragonfire incindiary round which explodes in midair, dousing targets with ignited napalm.
[21:43] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] I think David has something like that, but it was specially designed for him and it's a part of is armor. So it wouldn't surprise me if he can just walk out in front of them and pretty much pick'em off.

[21:44] [Solarchos] There's the Kraken round, which has a greatly increase range and better armor penetration.
[21:45] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Wow. Regarding the Dragonfire, it shouldn't be too hard to make. I mean, all you're doing is inserting a capsule of napalm in it.
[21:45] [Solarchos] Finally, there's the Vengeance round, which uses a new type of "flux-core" technology I've never even heard of before now. It's got less range than a regular gyroslug round, but it can apparently punch through even Space Marine power armor with a direct hit.
[21:46] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] Ouch.
[21:46] [Solarchos] Yeah, but there's the problem of making the proximity detonator that would make it explode in midair on demand.
[21:47] [Ryoko Mitsurugi] True.
[21:48] [Solarchos] Even better, the Astartes have further refined the Hellfire round. As you've probably heard, Hellfire rounds carry a mutagenic acid specifically designed for use against the Tyranids.

[21:49] [Solarchos] They used to only be usable in heavy bolters. Not any more. Now they can be fired from regular-sized boltguns in addition to heavy bolters.

[21:51] [Solarchos] Without a doubt.
[21:53] [Solarchos] Even their vehicles are becoming more sophisticated. Not by much though; the majority of their new vehicles designs are really just new variations of existing vehicle types, but without a doubt they're getting more flexible and creative.

[21:56] [Solarchos] Well, you definitely wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of their new Land Raider variants. If the MKA, the VanSaar, and the Nahen Bosnal had to face them during the Egae Crusade, we all would have taken far greater casualties.

[21:59] [Solarchos] However, if we can get a hold of the vehicle schematics, or just some good photographs, we could reverse-engineer them and start producing our own models. Or even new types of our own creation.

With the destruction of the World Engine and all the new weapons the Space Marines are coming out with, I think our chances of surviving the Dark Millenium have gone up a little.
